You Can Plan Your Future, But Don’t Worry About What’s to Come

Verse of the Day & Introduction:

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." – Matthew 6:33-34

As a planner, I know firsthand how easy it is to plan every detail of your future. You want everything to be perfectly laid out—from what you’re going to wear to where you’ll be a year from now. There’s nothing wrong with that. But the opposite—never planning and letting life take you anywhere—can be just as dangerous. When you’re living for God, there’s a balance.

Reflection:It’s all about balance. There’s a balance between creating your plans and waiting for God to guide you through the exact steps. If you plan absolutely nothing, you give God less to work with. Our faith comes from hope, and you have to allow room for growth in both areas—planning and trusting.

Facing the Storm

In my life, I always planned for children. I knew I wanted them, and my husband did too. But the timing wasn’t in my plan, and neither were all the issues we faced during pregnancy. The plan was there, but the tribulations weren’t. It was a reminder that while it’s good to have a plan, we can’t let it make us anxious about tomorrow.

We can plan our week, even our year, but what matters most is being present today. We can’t let the worry of what’s to come take over our thoughts, especially when God tells us to focus on today. Tomorrow has its own worries.

No Fear

Through this journey, I’ve learned not to let the fear of tomorrow steal my joy today. The fear of not having enough—whether it’s money, children, or a spouse—can rob you of the present moment. But do you have enough for today? Do you have enough for tonight? You may not have everything you want, but God gives you exactly what you need for today. The devil wants to make you feel like what God is providing isn’t enough, but that’s a lie. God provides for today, and tomorrow is already in His hands.

It’s good to make plans and have hope for the future. But don’t let tomorrow’s worries steal your peace today. Write down your plans, but hold them loosely, knowing that God’s timing is perfect. Your joy doesn’t have to be tied to what’s coming next. Let it be in what God is doing for you right now.

Scriptural Foundation:

  • Bring your dried-up spirit: Come. Let anyone who hears this say, 'Come.' Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life." – Revelation 22:17

  • Bring your fears:"I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears." – Psalm 34:4

  • Bring your doubts:"Everything is possible for one who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, 'I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!'" – Mark 9:23

  • Bring your brokenness:"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed." – Psalm 34:18

  • Bring your sins:"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." – Romans 5:8

  • God is calling sinners:"I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." – Luke 5:32

Living Out Your Faith:

Focus on God's words.

Remember that his plan is a perfect plan. Talk to God about how you feel and have full transparency with him. God wants to have relationship with you, not just parts of you but the whole you. Be vulnerable with God.
